๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Adding users to Helios

Invite your dev team members to start using Helios, experience the benefits of distributed tracing and observability, and save time while developing your distributed application.

One of the benefits of having developers use Helios when building a distributed application is the ease of collaboration across the team. Therefore, we made sure it's easy and intuitive to onboard users - either automatically or manually.

Note that the number of users is not impacted by the Helios plan you're on - only span consumption does - our goal is to make sure the right users get to the right data at the right time.

Generally speaking there are a couple of main methods to add users to Helios:

  1. Adding users automatically though pre-approved (email) domains
  2. Adding users manually, one by one, either by:
    1. Inviting them directly to join your team at Helios; or by
    2. Tagging them in trace comments / shares for immediate collaboration

User authentication and identity management

Regardless of how users are added to Helios, you may set the desired authentication method by leveraging Helios' Identity & access management supported integrations.

Automatically enrolling users from approved domains

The most frictionless way to get users onto Helios is by enabling approved email domains, thus ensuring any authenticated user from that domain will be able to access Helios. This makes it very easy to ensure that developers who need quick access to see a trace, troubleshoot an issue or debug a test run in CI/CD - can just get it.

The list of approved domains can be found under Settings > Users.

As an example, see how this looks like for the own dev team at Helios using Helios (๐Ÿ™€): Any user from the email domains [email protected]_ or [email protected]_ can automatically log into Helios (once authenticated).

Inviting users one by one

You may also opt to add users into Helios one-by-one.

This can be done by going to Settings > Users and entering the email address(es) of the users you wish to invite. Each user can be set with one of two roles: User (full access) or Viewer (read-only).

Adding users on the go

Some features in Helios allow tagging users. In case you share a trace or comment on a trace (for example) and tag a user that is not yet enrolled in Helios with your team, he or she will also get an invitation to join.
