๐ ๐ป Metadata-only mode
Configure the Helios OpenTelemetry SDK to collect only metadata (without payloads) to meet your company's privacy guidelines.
If you wish to ensure the Helios OpenTelemetry SDK does not collect any data aside from the metadata - you can simply configure the SDK to do just that.
When the metadata_only
mode is used, no content of headers or payloads (including HTTP request/response bodies, message queues content, DB queries and results, etc.) is collected.
To illustrate, in the example below you can see the same operation executed twice: the span on the left demonstrates what a span looks like in the metadata-only mode
; the span on the right demonstrated what a span looks like when all data (payload) is collected - namely, request and response headers and bodies in HTTP):

The span on the left was created in the metadata-only mode
, while the span on the right was created with the default configuration collecting all data.
The configuration for each SDK is specified in the respective language installation and configuration instructions.
